Our journey began with a bold vision: to revolutionize the AI landscape by seamlessly merging blockchain technology with artificial intelligence to engineer a platform that had the best of both worlds – a system that harnesses both the security of cryptography as well as the intelligence and optimization of AI.

At OpenGradient, we've dedicated ourselves to creating a groundbreaking decentralized system that empowers the open and permissionless creation, distribution, and deployment of AI models and applications. This wasn't a journey we undertook lightly. We've spent countless hours reflecting on our past experiences with AI in the respective industries we come from, collaborating with industry leaders, and meticulously shaping our MVP into a tangible product ripe to disrupt both the blockchain and AI product verticals.

We've been working diligently in stealth mode, making significant strides to develop and refine our offering. After months of intense development and iteration, we're thrilled to share our roadmap and vision, inviting you – our community – to join us in shaping the future of decentralized AI.

The Convergence of AI and Blockchains

AI has become an integral part of our daily lives: from powering smartphone assistants and recommendation algorithms to conversational robo-advisors recommending stock picks, AI influences nearly every aspect of modern society. However, the current state of AI is not only centralized and controlled by a few tech giants who can restrict access to AI models at will, but also lacks sufficient guarantees and safeguards around computation, making it unsuitable for applications that require a high level of verifiability, such as blockchain applications. As a result, while AI has become ubiquitous in enhancing traditional applications, Web3 protocols lag its Web2 counterparts in terms of sophistication, optimization, and ultimately user experience.

Major hurdles to integration of AI into Web3:

  • Blockchains are constrained by VM limitations and compute
  • Off-chain inference is trusted and vulnerable to exploits
  • High hardware requirements and compute costs for hosting and serving AI models
  • Complexity of bespoke infrastructure for trust-minimized inference (via zkML, TEEs…etc)
  • Lack of research into exploring AI-driven design spaces for web3 applications

Enter: OpenGradient

OpenGradient is the solution that merges blockchains with AI to solve each of their respective problems. OpenGradient is the first permissionless platform for open-source model hosting, secure inference, agentic reasoning, and application deployment. By developing AI tooling, feature-rich libraries, and an innovative decentralized platform built on blockchain rails, OpenGradient not only makes integrating AI workflows into web3 applications secure and seamless, but also decentralizes and universalizes access to AI models.

Our core products and initiatives include:

  • Web3 AI Research - OpenGradient’s research group fosters open-source AI innovation for crypto by building models for DeFi risk analysis, AMM dynamic fee optimization, DePIN reputation and much more.
  • Model Hub - OpenGradient’s Model Hub is Web3’s answer to HuggingFace: an easy-to-use web portal that allows any developer to upload, download, or access any AI model in our decentralized and censorship-resistant filestore.
  • OG SDK - The OG Python SDK provides seamless access to OpenGradient’s features including model access, secure inference, proof/attestation retrieval and more.
  • NeuroML - NeuroML allows developers to seamlessly build in our ecosystem of AI applications by harnessing models for features like ML optimization, systematic risk management, AI agents, sybil resistance, DeFi mechanism design and more.
  • HACA Infrastructure - OpenGradient’s proprietary Hybrid AI Compute Architecture (HACA) leverages node specialization to scale and secure on-chain AI workflows with features like inference, agentic reasoning, statistical analysis, and more.
